Some of you may have seen the recent newspaper reports regarding our Five Golden Safety Rules.  These rules are designed to make our offices, depots and other workplaces safer for our staff and visitors.  They include simple things like; always reverse park, so you have a better view when driving away and always hold handrails when walking up and down stairs.

We recognise these as sensible actions to help encourage a safety culture at work, but the newspapers held them up as examples of "health and safety gone mad"...

Men at work keeping the lights on

The nights are drawing in and it's getting colder. At this time of year we all realise how much we depend on electricity and gas. Thankfully the networks in place to help keep the lights and heating on are very reliable but they do go wrong sometimes. If the lights go out would you know what to do?

Safety at work

The media take great delight in highlighting when 'health and safety' appears to be spoiling people's fun, for example, by stopping actors at pantomimes throwing sweets into the audience in case someone gets hit by one. But, as is often the case, we seldom get to hear the whole story.
